Veterinary Cardiopulmonary Care Center is participating in a multicenter clinical trial evaluating a new medical therapy for dogs with chronic valve disease that experience an episode of acute congestive heart failure. The aim of the new medication is to support patients with congestive heart failure in dogs with advanced chronic valve disease. Enrolled patients will be randomized to placebo or the new cardiac medication and followed for up to 2 years.
The study will pay for an initial visit to Veterinary Cardiopulmonary Care Center for each patient to be evaluated for possible enrollment in the study. This includes a complete exam and echocardiogram. For enrolled patients, the study will then cover cardiac medical costs for follow-up of the patient for the duration of the study. This will include clinic visits to VCCC at scheduled intervals for cardiac evaluation. Diagnostics performed at follow-up visits may include an echocardiogram, chest radiographs, blood pressure, and/or laboratory work.
